What is Hydrosol?

Hello once again!

I’m thrilled to share an exciting update about a project we’ve been keeping under wraps. Our team has been hard at work on a novel creation exclusive to Curated Cannabis. Let me delve into the concept of hydrosol to give y’all a better idea.

Hydrosol, also recognized as hydrolate or floral water, emerges through the meticulous distillation of plants. During this distillation process, water travels through the plant material, carrying along volatile terpene compounds (see Terpenes 101 and Terpenes in Cannabis) as well as water-soluble compounds from the plant.

As the steam cools and transforms into liquid, the collection of terpenes and water from the plant forms what we know as hydrosol. These hydrosols harbor a subtle concentration of terpenes alongside water-soluble compounds, resulting in a gentler fragrance compared to their unprocessed counterparts. This distinction is attributed to the fact that water is not a concentrated medium for terpenes.

Our current endeavor involves replicating this technique with cannabis, allowing us to introduce a truly distinctive component in our forthcoming product range. Envision an exceptional water-based product containing water-soluble constituents extracted from the cannabis plant, coupled with the volatile terpenes.

Hydrosols boast a multitude of applications, including:

  1. Aromatherapy: With a more subdued aroma than potent essential oils, hydrosols are an excellent choice for aromatherapy, particularly for those sensitive to strong scents.
  2. Skincare: Embracing their gentle and hydrating attributes, hydrosols find their place as facial toners, revitalizing mists, and key ingredients in skincare solutions.
  3. Cosmetics: From creams to lotions and body sprays, hydrosols find utility in cosmetic formulations by providing a touch of natural fragrance and advantageous properties. The mild aroma ensures the scent isn’t overwhelming or long-lasting like traditional perfumes.
  4. Culinary: For foodies, certain edible hydrosols like rose, lavender, and soon cannabis can be employed to infuse flavors into culinary creations and beverages.

Our endeavor to unveil a collection of exceptional hydrosol products is nearing completion, promising an exciting range for your enjoyment. Rest assured, our Hydrosol is the pure extraction of cannabis water—nothing more, nothing less.

Stay safe and stay stoned!
