What is Aeroponics?

Our latest harvest comes from 420 Kingdoms exceptional facility in Arvin, California. They employ a cutting-edge cultivation system that combines aeroponics and LEDs.

The last time we encountered an aeroponic cultivation was back in 2017 when we were actively running one. During the era of Proposition 215, all our cannabis production utilized aeroponics paired with mixed lighting (LED / HPS). Despite being a challenging method, our experience showed that it yields superior results.

I’m eager to delve into the concept of aeroponics for those unfamiliar with it and share some firsthand insights into the benefits we’ve observed.

Aeroponics is a cultivation method where plants are suspended in the air, and their roots are sprayed with a nutrient-rich solution. In aeroponic systems, plants receive all their nutrients and water through a fine mist, allowing for extremely efficient nutrient absorption. This method is different from traditional soil or hydroponic cultivation, as it focuses on delivering nutrients directly to the roots in the form of a concentrated mist.

Aeroponics provides several benefits, including faster growth rates, increased oxygen uptake by the roots, and precise control over nutrient levels. It is considered a high-tech and advanced cultivation method that optimizes the plant’s nutrient intake and can result in higher yields. However, it requires careful monitoring and management to ensure the well-being of the plants. Just one little slip and the entire harvest can be ruined. It takes balls to grow like this.

Growing cannabis using aeroponics offers several potential benefits, including:

  1. Faster Growth Rates: Aeroponics can promote faster plant growth compared to traditional soil cultivation. The direct delivery of nutrients to the roots in the form of a mist allows for efficient absorption, leading to quicker development.
  2. Increased Oxygen Uptake: The suspended roots in an aeroponic system have increased access to oxygen. This enhanced oxygenation can stimulate root development and contribute to overall plant health.
  3. Precise Nutrient Control: Aeroponic systems provide precise control over nutrient levels. Growers can tailor the nutrient solution to meet the specific needs of the cannabis plants, optimizing their growth and development.
  4. Water Efficiency: Aeroponics is generally more water-efficient than traditional soil cultivation. The misting system uses less water than traditional irrigation methods, and the closed-loop system can recycle and reuse nutrient solutions.
  5. Reduced Risk of Soil-Borne Diseases: Since aeroponics doesn’t involve soil, there is a lower risk of soil-borne diseases affecting the cannabis plants. This can contribute to a cleaner and more disease-resistant cultivation environment.
  6. Space Efficiency: Aeroponic systems are often more space-efficient compared to traditional soil setups. This can be particularly advantageous for indoor cannabis cultivation where space may be limited.
  7. Potential for Higher Yields: When properly managed, aeroponics has the potential to result in higher yields compared to some other cultivation methods. The optimized nutrient delivery and root oxygenation contribute to the overall health and productivity of the plants.

These benefits seem to outshine traditional growing mediums, but the risk and complexity is often too high for many cultivators to make the switch.
