There are several misconceptions surrounding our Live Cured Flower process,
and one common misconception I often encounter is the belief that this method
is employed to cut corners and expedite getting a product to market. However,
the reality is quite different.
While it’s true that the Live Cured Flower process is faster than
traditional drying, it actually demands more hands-on attention during the
post-processing phase compared to the conventional method of hang drying
cannabis.
From the moment we harvest the plant, our team’s primary focus is on
preserving it in a way that maintains its original characteristics. This
involves performing a delicate wet hand-trim on each bud. We even refer to our
harvest crew as “stylists” rather than mere trimmers due to the
meticulous work required to trim each bud to perfection (see Hand-Trimmed vs Machine Trimmed).
Next, the cannabis is rapidly frozen using dry ice or liquid nitrogen, and
we place it in sealed metal containers categorized by bud size. This careful
organization ensures a consistent deep freeze before transportation and aids in
our final bud sorting process, which occurs just before packaging. It’s worth
mentioning that all our larger bud eighths specify the bud count per jar,
allowing customers to purchase eighths with 1-3 buds, depending on the cultivar.
After harvest, we transport the frozen cannabis back to our processing
facility where we actively remove moisture. This approach differs significantly
from hang drying, as it allows us to precisely control the environmental
conditions that influence the flower’s drying process. Since the drying time is
shorter, there’s no room for error, and we closely monitor each batch to ensure
it meets our specifications. We maintain 24-hour staffing during processing to
continuously monitor any changes during the drying process.
Once the flower is dry, it undergoes a finer micro-sorting process that
separates each bud with precision, typically to within 0.01 of a gram. This
meticulous sorting enables us to create eighths with specific bud counts, a
commitment we stand behind and guarantee for each eighth.
All these steps are completed within days after harvest. So, while Live
Cured products reach the market more quickly compared to traditionally cured
cannabis, it’s essential to appreciate the significant labor involved in
preserving each bud before it reaches you.
