Rolling a joint is one of the most common methods of smoking cannabis here at Curated. It involves rolling ground cannabis flower into a paper to create a cigarette or cone like structure that can be smoked and enjoyed. Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to roll a perfect joint using our Live Cured Flower:
Materials:
- Grinder
- Cannabis flower
- Rolling papers (usually made from rice or hemp)
- Filter or crutch
- Lighter or other source of fire
Step 1 – Grind your Cannabis:
Remove the cannabis flower from the stem. Then, use a grinder or your hands and break up your cannabis into small pieces.
Remember that our Live Cured Flower breaks down fluffier so don’t over grind.
Step 2 – Prepare the Rolling Paper:
Today we’ll be using Elements Ultra-Thin Rice Papers. Take a rolling paper and hold it with the adhesive side facing up and. Many rolling papers have a strip of adhesive on one edge that will be used to seal the joint.
Take the paper and fold it in half lengthwise with the adhesive strip facing up. The adhesive side should be the furthest away from you.
Use your fingers to create a crease in the paper where you will place your cannabis.
Step 3 – Add a Filter or Crutch:
Next, we’ll add a filter or crutch to one end of the joint.
A filter or crutch is a small piece of rolled-up material (often made from thicker paper like the sleeve on our eighths or a business card). It acts as a mouthpiece and can help improve airflow and prevent bits of cannabis from being inhaled.
Place the filter or crutch at one end of the joint, leaving a bit of paper sticking out.
Step 4: Add the Cannabis:
Place a pinch of ground cannabis in the center of the rolling paper, spreading it along the length of the paper.
The amount of cannabis you use depends on how big you want your joint to be and how strong you want it to be. I typically prefer my joint to look like a large hog’s leg, but for this demonstration I’m being more conservative.
Step 5 – Roll the Joint:
Using your thumbs and index fingers, gently roll the cannabis back and forth, shaping it into a cylinder within the rolling paper.
If you look inside the paper, the flower should hold the cylindrical shape on its own.
Use your thumbs and fingers to roll the paper up and down, tucking it around the cannabis to create a tight and even joint.
Once the cannabis is evenly distributed and the joint has taken shape, use your index fingers to roll the adhesive strip over the opposite edge of the paper and seal it shut – Be careful not to tear the paper!
Step 6 – Seal the Joint:
Once the cannabis is evenly rolled inside the paper, moisten the adhesive strip with your tongue and then seal the joint by pressing the adhesive strip against the paper.
Use your fingers to gently shape the joint and ensure its tightly sealed.
Sometimes you’ll have to use a small, thin object such as a pen or pencil to pack the cannabis down into the joint, creating a firm and even consistency.
Finish the open end of the joint out with a twist or crown. This will prevent cannabis from falling out of the joint and will also allow you to burn off the excess paper easier.
Step 7 – Dry Pull:
Put your mouth to the joint and inhale without lighting it. This will give you an idea of the air flow and give you a chance to correct it if there are any issues. Plus, you’ll get to taste the flower before lighting it to get your palette ready.
Step 8 – Light and Enjoy:
Using a lighter or other source of fire, ignite the end of the joint until you have a solid ember at the end called a cherry. Inhale from the other end while gently drawing on the joint. Remember to take slow, steady puffs to avoid letting the joint go out, pass it, and don’t drool on it – Your friends will thank you.
Rolling a Live Cured Flower joint can take practice to perfect, and it may require some trial and error to find the technique that works best for you. Our Live Cured Flower rolls a little differently than traditionally cured flower because it’s fluffier when ground. You typically use less cannabis with Live Cured Flower than traditionally cured flower. Because of that you may have to roll your joints a little tighter. Always test the air flow before you light it because you can make adjustments before it’s too late.
